Those Odyssey’s were everywhere as recently as 2015, and then they just disappeared. Knowing the mileage counts of 2005-2007 Odyssey’s (the VERY popular Odyssey), those Odysseys of your era probably had your mileage or more. Congrats!

Only the second one and only rebuilt in November. Nearly 200k on original tranny.

I got 372k out of a 2000 Odyssey... on three transmissions, but the original motor! You just gotta believe in it!

I forgot to mention that it’s also on its second engine. I would love to go another 200k, but we’ll see. It’s becoming a restoration project, one part at a time. I do love it, though.

I’m on my second transmission and second motor. Despite its age, it is a joy to drive, it’s got tons of room for my family of five, great seats. Highway acceleration is snappy, handling is great. It does exceptionally well driving assertively in heavy fast traffic. I’d love to put another 200k on it, but we’ll see. It’s becoming the death of a thousand stings.

I see a few, but yes, they are becoming rare. I saw one for sale in VA and thought that I should buy it and keep it for parts! I love our Oddy. We’ve been to the east coast numerous times, Chicago, South Dakota, San Diego and the Grand Canyon. It’s a fantastic traveler. I drove a 2018 and hated it.

Yeah, but do some maths before you buy something else. My Safari needs new bushings and ball joints up front.
Needs
... I notice it but nobody else would. I
love
, L O V E, driving that van. I had a bunch of people in it over the holidays. Thing is so
utile
and mine absolutely drives better than anyone else’s still on the road from that year. Still, I never thought the time would come that I’d crush the Camry, thought $1,000 from the state made that decision much easier to make.

200-250k is a brick wall for a lot of people who don’t maintain their own whips. I have a ‘97 Safari that is showing the length of its teeth. Second engine has close to 100k miles on it, likewise the transmission, though the latter was rebuilt by an expert and I hope it’ll go many more miles, though if the transmission failed, I’m not sure I’d pay to rebuild it. Then again, what is a vehicle but an engine and a transmission and some associated parts?

Thanks. But I’ve got to go to the grocery store, and do lots of practicing for next week. Traveling over the holiday was nice, but I missed that week of sitting around, watching football, and eating cheese and beef stick.

We had originally planned to take three days to drive home, with a stop in ATL to visit the aquarium. That would have put us home late today. Instead we decided to take two long days to get home and have two days to chill before my wife had to go back to work. I’m really glad we did.

240k ish miles on mine right now. Original engine is in my car, still running great. Original trans was on it’s last leg ( 195k of pure abuse ) which led to the 3.8/4-speed swap, which I’ve put 40+k on already with no issues.
Minivans FTW.

When mine hit that point, I usually just do it all and be done with it. Around 178k miles my van was in need of new shocks, so I did everything, shocks/struts/ball joints/bushings/tie rods/brakes/etc/etc while I had it apart anyway. Suspension/ brakes have been great ever since.
As it stands today I have less than $2k tied in my van, including purchase.

Minivans FTW.
As we drove home, my wife and I talked a bit about what we would replace it with. While minivans aren’t sexy, they are damned utilitarian, and with a family of five, there’s no better vehicle for long distance travel. We remove the right side middle seat and keep a cooler and big box of food there. It’s roomy, kids can stretch out a bit, and it’s got good seats and big windows. We came to the conclusion that the only vehicle we would want to replace it with is another 2003 Odyssey. I drove one of the new ones and hated it.

We’ve been back and forth about getting a new van. The only thing that drives decent IMO is the Transit Connect passenger van. The top models are quite nice inside, while having very car-like driving dynamics, and returning excellent mileage. The only real turn off for me is the lack of a V6, but the 4 seems to do alright to around 75 mph, so it’s not a real big deal.
Then again, I can completely rebuild my van about 5x for the cost of a new van and it’s exactly what I want in a van, simple/utilitarian with tons of power/torque in a fun to drive/efficient package. So it’s very likely I’ll just keep mine til the wheels fall off.

I was looking a bit at the Transit. But, like you, I adore that V6 in the Odyssey. When driving at 70, if I need the power to pass or get out of a situation, it is there in good measure. It has the power to GO when necessary, and I feel like I can drive as much with the accelerator as the steering wheel. Road feel is a bit harsh but informative, cabin noise is a bit loud. My mom owns a Town & Country with Stow and Go seats. Sure, they’re convenient, but riding for 30 minutes in the second row told me that I would never want to spend 14 hours in one of those seats. They are terrible. And the interior feels cramped compared to the Honda. So, yeah, I’m going to keep it as long as possible.

The Grand Caravan with the 2nd row bench has far more comfortable seats than the captains chairs ( which are horrible ) . But you can only get the bench in the base model, which means you get the rolly suspension/wheels , so it’s a no go for us too.
The Transit felt fine to me until around 75 mph. Honestly for around where I live, it has plenty of go. It’s not nearly as heavy as other minivans, so the 4 cyl does decent. It makes fun noises at WOT as well.
I too would miss the ability to just roll into the throttle to pass. My van doesn’t even have to downshift unless I really need to pass in a hurry, the shear low end torque of the 3.8L allows me to pass from 60mph without even unlocking the TC.
The lightweight and gobs of low end torque are very hard to get over for me. I enjoy the ride, it’s comfortable, yet a little stiff due to the ATs. The handling is surprisingly good, the harder sidewall of the ATs helped tremendously. Interior is basic, being a base model, I have no power options, but that really doesn’t bother me, less to go wrong.
I thoroughly enjoy the cheap parts and easy modability as well!

I went back and looked at this post in light of the van hitting 222,222 over the weekend. Just put new struts on the front and got the IAC sensor replaced. It desperately needs tires up front, which I will replace soon and then get it inspected (we’re about three months behind on that with the Covid). I really want to keep driving this van. There is nothing that I want to replace it with.

The Safari is at 238k. We took the trailer on a shakedown cruise yesterday, 52 miles. We’ll be driving it to Logan in a week or two for the birth spasm. Parts are becoming much less easy to find. That’s going to become more of an issue. But we’ll keep driving it until we can’t.
